Montana Gov. Steve Bullock threw his hat into the ring on Tuesday and announced that he’s running for president despite facing an uphill battle with quite a few other challengers against him. People are curious to meet the man willing to join this late in the game.
Steve Bullock is a rare political type; He’s in favor of abortion rights, was the first sitting governor in Montana to officiate a same-sex wedding, and he’s a proud gun owner. Bullock has been described by The Washington Post and ABC News as a moderate Democrat. His hopes are that he will be appealing to “primary voters”. He has an impressive background to give his threats some power too; he was a Democrat that got elected twice in a state that’s mostly republican. That’s no easy undertaking and really shows his political prowess.
Bullock will be primarily building his campaign platform on two major points:
1.) Campaign finance. He has some credit in this area thanks to Montana’s election laws that he helped put forward personally as attorney general and governor.
2.) Promising to “take our democracy back.” A slogan that many dem candidates are echoing in one fashion or another.
“I believe in an America where every child has a fair shot to do better than their parents. But we all know that kind of opportunity no longer exists for most people; for far too many, it never has,” Bullock said in his announcement video. “We need to defeat Donald Trump in 2020 and defeat the corrupt system that lets campaign money drown out the people’s voice, so we can finally make good on the promise of a fair shot for everyone.”
